When you actually have a burn that you are trying to treat with Lavender essential oil and you are unknowingly instead putting more caustic chemicals onto your burn this can be serious trouble.
Lavender essential oil that is produced commercially is often distilled for only 15 minutes with a steam temperature of up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 155 pounds of pressure. Although the oil is easily marketed and sold, it is of very poor quality.
Some people are more concerned about the price than the quality. You can easily sell inexpensive Lavender essential oil if you can produce a pound of oil in 15 minutes instead of a pound of oil in an hour an a half by using lower heat and lower pressure to preserve the integrity of the oil.
In the larger fields of the world at distillation time, you can see chemical trucks hooked into the distillers pumping solvents into the water already in the boiler. This increases oil production by as much as 18 percent.
However, when you put a chemical in the water and force it with steam into the plant, it causes a fracturing of the molecular structure of the oil, altering its fragrance and constituents. Also you cannot separate the chemicals from the oil after they come through the condenser.
Today most of the Lavender oil sold in America is a hybrid called Lavandin, grown and distilled in China, Russia and Tasmania. It is brought into France, cut with synthetic linolyl acetate to improve the fragrance, added to propylene glycol or SD 40, DEP, and DOP (solvents that increase the volume), and then sold in the US as lavender oil.
Oftentimes Lavandin is heated to flash off the camphor, and then synthetic linolyl acetate is added so that it appears as lavender. Consumers do not know the difference and are happy to buy Lavandin for $5 to $7 per half ounce in health food stores, and through mail order.
These synthetic and adulterated oils can cause rashes, burns, or other irritations. We wonder why we do not get the benefits we were expecting and conclude that essential oils do not have much value. When synthetic fragrance constituents are added, the essential oil becomes weaker and weaker with each stage of distillation.
Many people have jumped on the bandwagon because of the money making potential they see in essential oils. They buy cheap oils, rebottle them, label them as 100 percent pure essential oils, and market them without ever knowing their origin or who was responsible for distillation.
It is critical to make sure you are using 100% therapeutic grade essential oils from a reputable company that you trust.
To ensure that you are getting therapeutic-grade essential oils, find a company that submits their oils for routine testing by independent laboratories and whose oils are from organic source, distilled without chemical solvents at minimum temperatures and pressures, and are bottled straight from the still with no alterations or adulterations.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Menopause
I. Definition
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as endocrinologic diseases caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interferes with the function of the normal ovaries as resulting of enlarged ovaries, leading to hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), resulting in male pattern hair development, acne,irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and effecting fertility. It effects over 5% of women population or 1 in 20 women.

3. Acne and oily skin
4. Over weight
5. Obstructive sleep apnea

III. Diagnosis
If you have above symptoms, you may have PCOs. It is for your benefit to visit your doctor or gynaecologist immediately, because it may effect your chance of fertility. It is easy to identify through your medical history, physical exam and a blood test. In fact, the most effective long term treatment for PCOs can be done naturally at comfort at your own home.
The blood test includes testing of
DHEAS, testosterone, SHGB, LH and FSH ratio, TSH, IGTT level ( fasting insulin) and several other androgens are used to evaluate adrenal function. IV. Causes of PCOs
The causes of polycystic ovarian syndrome is still unknown, but there are some suggestions
1. Genetic predisposition

2. Insulin resistance
Insulin resistance is defined as above normal level of insulin in the blood of a person. It may be caused other health problem such as diabetes, abnormal function of pancreas or caused by low numbers of the insulin sensitivity of cells, which impairs the process of glucose in energy conversion and high blood glucose levels in the body, leading to hormone imbalance resulting in increasing the risks of cystic follicles or ovarian cysts development.
3. Obesity
Obesity is defined as a person whose BMI index is over 24. As we known, obesity women is always associated to insulin resistance, leading to the same problem as mentioning above.
4. Hyperandrogenism
Hyperandrogenism is a medical condition characterized by excessive production and/or secretion of androgens leading to male pattern hair growth.
a) Hirsutism
Hirsutism develops when follicles in androgen sensitive areas start to form thick, pigmented hair as opposed to thin, short, non-pigmented hair normally seen in those areas in women.

Food adulterantion is defined as admixture or substitution of inferior substances or by the removal of some valuable ingredient in foods, leading to hormone imbalance and distorting the natural process of women reproductive system.
7. Chronic inflammation
Prolonged inflammation, known as chronic inflammation, leads to a progressive shift in the type of cells which are present at the site of inflammation and is characterized by simultaneous destruction and healing of the tissue from the inflammatory process.
V. Types of Conventional treatments
1. Metformin
a) The effectiveness of metformin
It is an oral anti-diabetic drug used to treat type II diabetes. It is also used widely in treating PCOs by suppressing the production of endogenous glucose by the liver as it helps to make insulin working more effective without changing the level of insulin in the body, thereby helping to regulate the production of certain hormones resulting in ovulation and egg production.

i) Gastrointestinal upset including diarrhea, cramps, nausea and vomiting.
ii) Buildup of lactic acid in the body.
iii) Abdominal pain or cramps.
2. Clomiphene (Clomid)

7. Surgery

Menopause Mouth Symptoms
Are you one of the 70% of women approaching menopause? When a woman’s hormonal levels change in the reproductive system they typically have hot flashes and nights sweats as well as mood swings and sudden tears. Most women while still having their periods notice that they are having symptoms of menopause. At this stage a woman is in perimenopause and usually begins during their early 40′s.

Not all women have hot flashes, yet more than half will.
Nights Sweats
A relative of hot flashes is what is called evening night sweats. These sweats are more intense. What some may think is a sleep disorder isn’t, but a common perspiration disorder that happens when you are sleeping.
Irregular Periods
Hormonal imbalances are usually the cause of absent, short, and irregular periods. Most women will have these symptoms during their lives. You will have your periods sooner then normal and even later then usual and may only last a few days and in some cases longer then you are use to. Sometimes you may skip a month and then go back to normal for a few months to find out that you may not have another period for 2 to 3 months later. These irregularities are most common during your mid forties while approaching your menopause. The cause of this is hormonal imbalances and estrogen production.
Loss of Libido
This is an issue when desire becomes less than normal between couples and most sex therapists will tell you that is should only be addressed when it becomes a problem between the couple. We all experience ups and down in our sexual desire, but during this period of menopause it can become a problem do to lack of intimacy. One must also know when the difference is sexual drive and sexual function and treat them as such.
Vaginal Dryness
When a woman’s estrogen levels drop her usual moist and soft feel of the vaginal area may become itchy and irritable and start to dry as well as become less elastic. She will become more prone to infections not to mention uncomfortable while love making. This also occurs because of estrogen levels drop.
Mood Swing and Sudden Tears
Because of all these problems are going on at one time it will make a woman’s attitude go from happy go lucky to mean and irrational and out of control. This is normal and can be treated so you should talk to your doctor and get more advice.
Fatigue
Fatigue symptoms are the second most common symptom that doctors will diagnose in a patient. This will have a major impact when it comes to your daily life and cause strain on your relationship, work environment as well as your all around quality of life. When you have a lack of energy and feel weak and tired with low energy and wanting to sleep a lot on an ongoing bases you are within the lines of fatigue. These are the most common of menopause symptoms.

Working as a nurse in the emmergency room you meet a beautiful variety of people. Among those for whom I feel a special sympathy are those with bipolar. They can of course be quite the characters: some hear voices, some live on the streets, some have an extraordinary sense of humor, some love to sing and entertain… and much more. One thing bipolar patients have in common is that they take heavy medications, particularly antidepressants that have many side effects. To whatever question you ask these patients, the answer will often be, “Well, I have bipolar.” As if this one sad fact is sufficient explanation for all possible questions.
But the word “bipolar”, of course, does not explain everything, and this is particularly true for women having problems with hormonal changes. For example, one woman had a hysterectomy because of severe bleeding, then had to go on hormone replacement therapy. After a couple of months she completely “lost it”. She became convinced that she had to move far, far away and take up missionary work – to the alarm of her concerned family. Bingo. She was put on antidepressants and given the convenient label of “bipolar.” Well – she took her antipressants cross-country with her and ended up living on the streets with the homeless. Rescued finally, by some good friends, she was brought back home, where she if now off most medication, trying to stay as sane as possible, and still saddled with the heavy label of “bipolar.”
Many women in and around menopause go haywire… but is that necessarily bipolar? I often wonder at how strongly hormones can affect mental health, as is often the case with women after childbirth, with the so-called ‘baby blues’. Often due to the hormone progesterone easy to fix with natural progesterone cream. Likewise, women – and men in their own hormonal midlife crisis – often get depressed. But should this really be any surprise? After all, so many things are changing at this point – it’s like adolesence all over again, but in reverse! New sensations and a new view of life… letting go of the old ways and struggling with the new… There can be a lot of confusion with many challenging questions demanding to be lived. Unfortunately, many take the easy road and simply dodge the whole thing. They accept being depressed and can even console themselves with the mantra, “After all, I’m bipolar.”
One solution might simply be to use common sense. Bipolar or not, it’s essential to take in enough essential amino acids and different forms of protein. Many people’s protein intake is limited and unvarying: just red meat, chicken and eggs. If you read Dr. Eric Braverman’s book “The Edge Effect”, you’ll see that we need protein from many sources, including meat, poultry, nuts, eggs, fish, dairy, beans, and vegetables.
This approach is helpful for all of us, but especially for those with bipolar – whether it’s the real thing or not. Dark chocolate can be helpful too, offering some of the same benefits as such antidepressants as Prozac and Paxil, but with no side effects. Just as healthy foods are vital for growing children, they are crucial for anybody going through big changes or having a difficult time. So be sure to eat well and exercise, and study Dr. Braverman’s “The Edge Effect”. Give yourself what your brain needs to function well and create harmony in your being. Don’t worry so much about your bipolar – or the bipolar label. Apply your thoughts to the constructive self-healing that is possible.

Menopause Hot Flash Diet
Some women have observed that when they are worried or anxious, their hot flashes are more intense and frequent. This observation was also confirmed in an article in the June 2005 issue of Menopause: The Journal of the North American Menopause Society.
Many lifestyle elements, such as exercise, stress, diet and anxiety are very important in how a woman experiences hot flashes in menopause. In the article, moderately anxious women experienced three times as many hot flashes as women who considered themselves as on a low scale of anxiety. Women who were considered highly anxious had five times as many hot flashes!
Why do you get hot flashes?

Lifestyle changes do not alter levels of Lp(a); instead, levels for most people tend to remain consistent over a lifetime except for women, who will experience a slight rise in levels with menopause. Some physicians request testing of Lp(a) for patients who have a strong family history of premature heart disease or hypercholesterolemia. It can be a valuable test, particularly when other types of cholesterol are at healthy levels, yet concern exists that heart disease is developing. According to Jeffrey Aroy of Berkeley HeartLab, Inc., “the value of the quantitative measurements is that they go beyond simply noting whether levels are ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ Instead, these measurements not only provide guidance for therapeutic treatment, but also provide valuable insight into the success of therapy and the need for adjusting treatment approaches on an ongoing basis.”
Treatment for elevated Lp(a) includes niacin therapy. Some experts believe that antioxidant therapy is also useful. People with high levels of Lp(a) benefit by concentrating their efforts OR lowering LDL levels since at lower levels, it is harder for LDL particles to attach to plaque buildup. Lowering LDL levels ultimately lowers the level of risk.
According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in November 2003, researchers found that elevated levels of Lp(a) among healthy men age sixty-five years and older are predictive of the risk of stroke and death. Study participants with the highest levels of Lp(a) were more likely to experience a stroke and were 76 percent more likely to die than men with the lowest levels. These researchers support the use of Lp(a) testing as a screening tool to measure the risk of stroke and heart disease in older men.

What is hydration?
All living organisms need water. Human body is made up primarily of water. Skin, the largest organ of our body, contains about 80 % of water and is made of 3 layers:
- Epidermis, the barrier between the body and the environment.
- Dermis, the water reservoir of the skin.
- Hypodermis, the inner layer of the skin that connects the skin to the bones and muscles.
Skin contains about 10 % of the water contained in all the body.
Water is fixed in the skin in the dermis layer. This water is pumped as needed by the epidermis and is fixed in it by some compounds named natural moisturizing factors (NMF). On the surface of the skin, the hydrolipidic film is a blend of sebum (lipids) and water that protects the skin from external aggressions and prevent inner water for evaporating. When the skin epidermis is damaged by external conditions (cold, wind, pollution …) there is a disorganisation of the skin micro relief with an alteration of desquamation. As a consequence the skin doesn’t act anymore as a protective barrier and it let water evaporate. If the skin looses water, the epidermis is weakened and water evaporates faster. It is a vicious circle.
Why is hydration necessary for the skin ?
The skin is in constant contact with the environment. The epidermis has the very important barrier function that protects the skin from external aggressions. It also protects the skin from trans-epidermal water loss. Skin can be dehydrated because of external factors such as cold or wind or because of internal factors such as periods or menopause. When the epidermis is weakened due to dehydration for example, the skin becomes more vulnerable to external aggressions. Hydration of skin reinforces this barrier as well as all the layers of the skin.
A dehydration of the skin can occur on dry skin as well as on oily skin, resulting in a sensation of discomfort, itching or irritation. The dehydrated skin looses its suppleness and becomes rough, and crackly. Wrinkles appear. As the skin becomes very sensitive, the discomfort increases with cleansing and friction. Dehydration of the skin is the first step in skin aging. It is necessary to hydrate your skin at any age to prevent the skin from premature aging. With mature skin, dehydration is common and the first active ingredient needed in an anti-age cream is a hydrating ingredient. Hydration is necessary to keep a soft, supple, tonic and radiant skin. Hydration is always linked to protection. A properly hydrating cream becomes a protection cream. It should be used daily, at any age, and it should become a natural habit like brushing teeth.
How can you hydrate your skin?
A hydrating cream can act in 2 different ways.
1. Increasing water reserve. You can use for example oil in water cream or milk, that contain a lot of water and that will provide short time hydration.

Many women worry about getting breast cancer| , sometimes because one of their relatives has developed the illness. This section explains:
Genes carry the biological information we inherit from our parents. They affect the way our bodies grow, work and look. Changes (mutations) in certain genes can increase the risk of breast cancer in family members who inherit the genetic change. But only a small number of breast cancers are thought to be due to an inherited altered gene running in the family.
Two gene changes – called BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations – can run in a family and increase the breast and ovarian| cancer risk of those family members who inherit the genetic change. But they are not common.
It is only likely that a genetic mutation that can increase your breast cancer risk is present in your family, if you have:
Your close relatives are your mother, sisters or daughters. They are sometimes called your first degree relatives.
If your family is like this, and you are worried about developing breast cancer yourself, you might want to talk to your GP. They will ask you questions about your family history. If you have a family history of any unusual cancers/childhood cancers or you have Jewish ancestry or other ethnic background (where a faulty breast cancer gene is more common), you should mention that to your GP. If your GP thinks there’s a chance that you might have an increased risk of developing breast cancer because of your family history, they will refer you to a genetic counsellor, family cancer clinic or a cancer specialist.
All women, when they are 50, are invited to join the NHS Breast Screening Programme| and offered three yearly mammograms until they reach 70. Women who seem to have inherited an increased risk of getting breast cancer may be offered yearly mammograms, and sometimes MRI scans, from an earlier age.
If you only have one middle-aged or elderly relative who has developed breast cancer, or one case of breast cancer on each side of your family, this does not significantly increase your risk. If you had one of the ovarian or breast cancer genes in your family, then it is likely that more than one relative on the same side of the family would have developed ovarian or breast cancer.

The cause of most breast cancers is not known. But we do know that some things – called risk factors – can increase our chances of developing cancer. Some risk factors are very likely to cause cancer, whereas others will only very slightly increase our likelihood of getting it.
Having a particular risk factor for cancer, or being exposed to one, doesn’t mean that we will definitely get cancer, just as not having it doesn’t mean that we won’t. Smoking is a good example of this. If you smoke, it isn’t certain that you will get lung cancer , just as if you don’t smoke, it’s not certain that you won’t. But smoking will greatly increase your risk of getting lung cancer. Nine out of ten people who develop lung cancer are smokers.
Cancer is very common and nearly 1 in 3 of us will develop it at some time during our lives. This means that most of us will have relatives who have had cancer. Surveys have shown that many people are worried that a history of cancer in their family greatly increases their risk. People often worry that an increased risk of cancer can be inherited, or passed on from one generation to another. Other risk factors in the development of breast cancer can play a bigger role than family history.
Breast cancer is mainly a disease of older women and is rare in women under 50. In the UK more than half of breast cancers occur in women over 65. Women under 50 are at far lower risk of getting breast cancer than older women, and women under 40 have an even lower risk.
There is some evidence that the more years a woman has had periods, and is therefore exposed to the female hormone, oestrogen, the more prone she is to breast cancer. This means that you may have an increased risk of developing breast cancer if you:

Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol seems to increase women’s breast cancer risk. The European Code Against Cancer recommends that to reduce their risk of developing cancer women should drink no more than one unit of alcohol per day. A unit is half a pint of ordinary strength beer, lager or cider or one small glass (125ml) of wine or a single measure (25ml) of spirits.
It has been suggested that particular diets, some dietary supplements and deodorants can increase the risk of developing breast cancer. However, there is no good evidence to support these claims. Scientists are studying many different possible factors, but so far the risk factors listed in this leaflet are the only ones where there is good evidence.
Although many of the known breast cancer risks are beyond our control there are other risk factors, known as lifestyle risk factors that you can control. It has been estimated that about one half (50%) of all cancers diagnosed in the UK could be avoided if people made changes to their lifestyles. A. Relin, which is about one man’s mission to build schools in the most remote parts of Pakistan where there were none. It is a very compelling story and fast reading.
Another lady of my acquaintance did something unusual but very, very therapeutic for her – she gathered together all the comics that were stashed away in an old trunk and read some of them once a week. These included Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Asterix, Archie, etc. What you read is not the question here. The end result has to be positive and that’s what counts. If you do not wish to purchase books, you can join the local lending library and read books for a nominal fee.

The Dutch and US research, which looked at more than 1,300 women and was published in the British Medical Journal, found that every 10 cycles of IVF treatment with acupuncture would result in one extra pregnancy. The overall results indicated that women who had acupuncture were 65% more likely to undergo successful IVF treatment compared with those who underwent dummy versions of the acupuncture treatment, or those who had no extra treatment at all.
Rowan Pelling of the Guardian spoke of her positive own experience of acupuncture and fertility. She said: “After the first treatment, when I felt currents of energy move across my body, something very strange happened.
